چکیده

By using a pulse amplitude modulation representation of the binary continuous phase modulation signals, we develop a new optimum Viterbi sequence detector and a near optimum Viterbi receiver with low complexity. Also, for the modulation index 0.5 where a linear receiver can be used, a minimum mean-squared error linear receiver filter is derived. Their performance is analyzed. The Gaussian minimum shift keying signal (GMSK) is used for illustration. It is shown that a GMSK receiver consisting of two matched filters and a four-state Viterbi algorithm performs with less than 0.24 dB degradation compared with the optimal receiver. The linear receiver is optimum for all values of E , / & (bit energy to noise one-sided spectral density ratio). A design method for its receiver filter is given. The filter is equivalent to a cascade of a matched filter and a Wiener filter estimator. Both an upper and a lower bounds for the bit-error probability are calculated. Simulation results which confirm the analysis are also given.

Data-aided Symbol Time and Carrier Phase Tracking for Pre-coded Cpm Signals

A data-aided approach to symbol time and carrier phase synchronization applicable to general continuous phase modulation (CPM) signals with modulation index 0.5 is described. Simulated BER performance of two receivers equipped with these synchronizers is presented for a GMSK BT=1/5 signal received in noise with constant and dynamic synchronization errors. Results demonstrate that these synchron...

A Class of Reduced-Complexity Viterbi Detectors for Partial Response Continuous Phase Modulation

Partial response continuous phase modulation (CPM) gives constant envelope digital modulation schemes with excellent. power spectra. Both narrow main lobe and low spectral tails can be achieved. When these ,signals are detected in an optimum coherent maximum likelihood sequence detectoy (Viterbi detector), power efficient schemes can also be designed, sometimes at the expense of receiver comple...

Neural net-based continuous phase modulation receivers

Continuous phase modulation (CPM) schemes are generally used in peak-power limited transmission systems such as digital satellite communications. Their major drawback, however, is a prohibitively complex receiver structure, particularly in modulation schemes with high packing densities. In this paper we propose feed-forward neural nets (NN) as receivers for partial response CPM systems. Our app...

On Iterative Receivers for Non-Coherent Channels

It is well-known that optimal receivers for many wireless communication systems employ joint channel estimation and decoding. Since this is almost always too computationally complex, we consider iterative receivers that approximate joint estimation and decoding by iterative algorithms. Continuous-valued variables such as the channel phase response are often difficult to handle in these algorith...

Low Complexity Noncoherent Iterative Detector for Continuous Phase Modulation Systems

This paper focuses on the noncoherent iterative detection of continuous phase modulation. A class of simplified receivers based on Principal-Component-Analysis (PCA) and Exponential-Window (EW) is developed. The proposed receiver is evaluated in terms of minimum achievable Euclidean distance, simulated bit error rate and achievable capacity. The performance of the proposed receiver is discussed...
